Northward and Onward to Canada
Leaving the BMWRA rally in West
Virginia our general plan was to
head northeast, to the Canadian Maritime Provinces; Newfoundland and
Labrador more specifically.
But first, I had a
significant maintenance issue to deal with. So we headed to the
home of Dave and Mary Swisher near Bowling Green, Virginia.
Dave has ridden BMWs more than 1.5 million miles and has a well
equipped workshop. I needed to lubricate the clutch splines
on Voni's bike - which requires removing the transmission and the
driveline from there back. Here Dave and I work on the K75.

When we were finished
working on the bike, Mary treated us to a marvelous dinner!
|
We left Dave and
Mary's and headed
north. We spent one night with Paul's sister Betsy and her
husband Lee Saville. Then we headed on north as directly as we could -
Canada bound again.
We stopped in Ballston
Spa, New York to spend a night with friend and BMW rider Paul
Bachorz. It turned rainy so we spent an extra day with
Paul. He fed us well.

When we left Ballston
Spa we headed across Vermont, New Hampshire,
and Maine making a bee-line for New Brunswick and the Canadian
Maritime Provinces. Voni had a good chat with the young lady
bagpiper at the Visitor's Center in McAdam, New Brunswick.
|
We spent one
night at what first
appeared to be a rather dreary RV park (not our favorite camping) in
Fort Hood, Nova Scotia, but looking around we soon discovered we were
in a truly beautiful spot.

We headed directly to
Cape Breton Island and the famed seaside road, The Cabot
Trail. This road encircles the northern part of
Cape Breton Island and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

We encountered a bit of
a traffic jam right at a scenic pull-out. Apparently motorists in
Nova Scotia are no more used to seeing wildlife beside the road than
U.S. drivers are in Yellowstone National Park. Since it was a
rest area, and we wanted some coffee, we pulled in to pour some from
the Thermos. While we were there we took our share of moose
pictures too.
