Voni and Paul Glaves
Summer - 2009
                        (page 7)

Following the completion of the Iron Butt Rally we were committed to go to the Bavarian Mountain Weekend BMW Rally at the Sipapu Ski Lodge a bit south of Taos, New Mexico.  We were scheduled to present a seminar at this rally, as we have each year since at least 2002. Then we intended  to ride to Mike's in Kansas.  We arranged for Melanie and the boys to meet us at Mikes.

Along the way Paul found the opportunity to show Voni that her "Neon Red" jacket was really Construction Zone Orange.  He took a picture to prove it.  Neither of us liked the message on the sign though.

We stopped to camp at one of our favorite campgrounds:  Beaver Creek Campground in the National Forest about 25 miles northwest of West Yellowstone.  We camped here last year too, on our way south from Alaska.
After reading the campground bulletin board and the warnings posted there we got out the Bear Attack Deterrent Spray we carried all summer.

We rode south through Flaming Gorge in Utah and to the Colorado National Monument, a beautiful "secret" located near Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Sipapu Ski Lodge is a great location for a rally.
Paul immediately made a new friend.

The weather forecast predicted a chilly night so Paul
suggested to Voni that he needed a new, warmer hat.

We had a great time at the rally.  We even spent some time dancin' to good old fashioned music by the washboard and jug band that played Friday night.  Our Saturday morning seminar went well, too.  Sometimes we even amuse ourselves.

Then it was time to return to Kansas for a visit with Mike, and with Melanie and the grandboys.  Unlike the mad Sunday dashes we used to make back to Kansas so we could be at work on Monday morning, now retired and on a summer-long vacation, we took two days to get there!

Voni and the grandboys, Noah and Brody, headed off down the "dead end road" to do some exploring;
where Noah promptly discovered the perfect climbing tree.

Paul got out the lawn mower and proceeded to cut some trails in the tall grass.  He fired up the Honda CRF50 dirt bike so Noah and Brody could have a few more lessons in the fine art of motorcycle riding.

     First Brody .......
..... and then Noah!

              then Melanie
and Mike

All too soon it became time to finish our summer's journey and return once again to our desert Adobe.  The day didn't start out too promising.  But once the rain let up we headed home.  We stopped over night on the way.

We were delighted by this blooming
Century Plant near Alpine.

And arrived home right at sunset.
