Voni's Birthday
December 8, 2006

Well, after the weather fiasco on Voni's birthday in 2005 - what with zero degrees and snow and all, we decided to move south to get away from the snow, ice, slush and frigid air of winter.  We moved to southwest Texas, in the desert, amidst the rock and cactus, 30 miles from Mexico.

For Last Year's Birthday Story

So the day before Voni's birthday we noticed the weather forcast with the severe weather warning flashing on the computer screen.  Guess which part of Texas we live in?  The part with the Winter Storm Warning, of course.
G
So, it's going to be cold!     OK!

But wait - take a look at the national snowfall forcast map.  What's that little bit of snowy area way down there in Texas?   Oh, yes!  That's where Voni lives now!

Being prudent, we cancelled the plans for a day-long dinner ride on Voni's birthday, and instead took a short ride south to Terlingua for lunch.

We stopped at one of Terlingua's finest dining spots.
Kathy's Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe.

And, we enjoyed some very fine chicken gumbo and a barbeque beef sandwich.

On December 8, we awoke to see big snow flakes drifting down out of the sky.  Our "P&V Land and Cactus Company" glistened with big, white, fluffy flakes all over the ground.  Voni was so excited she could hardly contain herself.

Sarge was a little more casual about all of this than Voni was.

The cactus garden outside the bedroom door was blanketed with fluffy white snow.
Voni just couldn't wait to go out to play - slippers and all.

Nobody wanted to clean the snow off the car windows!

So Voni got her F650 out instead .....
.... to ride around the front cactus garden ....

..... around and 'round and 'round, she'd go .....
.... where to stop, she didn't know!

Finally, she came into the house to have some breakfast burritos, and to catch up on all the email and news she missed while she was out riding on her birthday.

I wonder if it ever snows in Guatamala.?

I told her she should just go out and sit on her bike for a while - so she did.

Happy Birthday to all, and to all a good night!

(  Or Something Like That!  )
